A lackluster movie which suffered for having had most of the story told previously and also failed to deliver any real tension.
Archive for the “action” CategoryA weak script and terrible direction bring this franchise to its knees, Transporter 3 fails to deliver anything. Body of Lies is a reasonably good action-thriller with some strong performances and interesting context, let down by a soft-ending. A fractured and unrealised sci-fi drama which results in a dissapointing and unsatisfying action viewing experience. Funnier than I was expecting and despite some clunky scenes and some weaker than average plot issues worth watching. A by-the-book action thriller with no twists or turns and a hero who at times stretches his credability. Don’t let bad reviews fool you, Hancock is a pretty good movie with a quick-turn in the latter half which gives this mildly comic superhero action flick a nice edge. Much like a surfer who spends a long time waiting for the right wave, only to have it vanish beneath them just as they’re about to rise and finally reach the sky, Rocknrolla never gets a stable footing despite several attempts and misses the crest too often. Burn After Reading is witty, well paced black comedy with some very surprising ‘oh my god’ moments and although the ending feels rushed it doesn’t detract too badly from the superb performances throughout. A solid and thoroughly watchable action movie with the smallest of surprises and the greatest of loud engine revving noises. A silly and flawed movie which still manages to be reasonably entertaining, Mutant Chronicles could do with being shorter at the start, fatter in the middle and leaner at the end. A turgid start full of cliche and obvious jokes slowly transforms into a much more entertaining second half of this comedy action flick, leaving you wondering what went wrong in the early stages. Although Transporter 2 fails to live up to the simple charm of the first film, it still manages to keep its head above water and deliver a solid all round piece of action entertainment. Surprisingly entertaining action movie staring the ever-charming Jason Statham, with good supporting performances well scripted action sequences and enough humour to cover the gaps. This classic British comic take on zombie survival movies hits all the right spots with some solid belly laughs, some pretty inciteful parody and all round excellent acting. At best this is an average assassin action movie, at worst it’s derivative tripe, but it manages to hold its head above water just enough to entertain for 90 minutes. Bale’s grating gravel voice is the only real negative point of this super Batman reboot, it’s silly crazy and brilliantly envisioned.

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of LifePosted by tony in 2003, action, cinema, reviewAn above average action adventure which Jolie keeps moving when the plot and other characters begin to drag, The Cradle of Life is inconsistent but fun. A lot of people didn’t like I, Robot but personally I thought this was a decent sci-fi action thriller with some nice twists and some excellent scenes, certainly better than average with much of the uplift coming from Smith. A mediocre sci-fi action movie which reminds us that you can’t ignore the dialog, no matter what kind of movie you’re making. |
