Enjoyable but silly in places, The International never quite gets away from the fact that it’s about the banking industry and yet still manages to entertain sufficiently to make watching it worthwhile.

Duplicity

Excellent chemistry between Owen and Roberts, combined with an interesting story, careful use of flashbacks, and some excellent supporting performances (Paul Giamatti is awesome) made this an enjoyable film (if maybe a little long) despite the critical backlash.

Cage delivers a good performance in this initially entertaining sci-fi suspense and the supporting cast is equally good, however the bizarre twist near the end leaves you wondering why you watched it in the first place.

16 Blocks

Despite having a well trodden plot 16 Blocks delivers an exciting and entertaining 118 minutes filled with wise cracks, solid dialogue and decent performances.

The Bank Job

Some amusing dialogue and interesting entanglements make this interpretation of a real bank robbery watchable, engaging and surprisingly emotional.

Punisher: War Zone

I don’t turn off many films before getting to the end, but Punisher: War Zone’s dialog and action was so dire and had so few redeeming features that I gave up before the end, judge it on that basis.

Outlander

The Day the Earth Stood Still

This remake of the original classic goes through the motions but appears to have no soul, and if you can’t attach yourself to the female lead and her annoying kid you’re left wondering why you should care.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

Don’t let bad reviews fool you, Hancock is a pretty good movie with a quick-turn in the latter half which gives this mildly comic superhero action flick a nice edge.

Rocknrolla

Much like a surfer who spends a long time waiting for the right wave, only to have it vanish beneath them just as they’re about to rise and finally reach the sky, Rocknrolla never gets a stable footing despite several attempts and misses the crest too often.

Burn After Reading

Burn After Reading is witty, well paced black comedy with some very surprising ‘oh my god’ moments and although the ending feels rushed it doesn’t detract too badly from the superb performances throughout.

Kung Fu Panda
