While amusing in places this animated comedy doesn’t have much in the way of value for adults (unlike other movies of this ilk) and we didn’t rush out to get the next two.
Archive for the “dvd” CategoryCompelling, intriguing and more than worth the effort, Twelve Monkey’s really defies genre selection and really has to be experienced. A sweet and very funny emotionally engaging right of passage movie. A better than average sci-fi action movie that presents an interesting premise and some impressive gun fights, but make sure you bring heavy amounts of suspension of disbelief, you’ll need them. Hard to define, impossible to explain, The Blues Brothers is a cult classic that you have to watch to appreciate. A classic movie which is as watchable today as it was in 1987, Lethal Weapon defines the buddy-cop action-comedy genre and is still top of the class over 20 years on. Considering the source material and what was asked of the actors, I found Resident Evil to be watchable and enjoyable despite the many flaws, in a world of horrific game-to-movie conversions Resident Evil keeps it’s head just above the sludge. While not being rated as highly as some of Murphy’s work, personally I enjoyed The Golden Child and found it entertaining and different to the movies around at the time, having said that it might not hold up well after 23 years. A decent John Landis comedy which aims to be no more than a feel-good comedy and delivers just about exactly that. Beyond Thunderdome is the weakest of the three Max movies but is still worth watching, too many cute moments and forced situations decrease the impact of the otherwise engaging story. Another excellent outing for Mad Max this time showing us the complete breakdown of order and the power of oil; with an increase in the comic element providing some light relief, Mad Max 2 is easier viewing than the first movie but no less entertaining. Mad Max holds up despite being 30 years old, presenting a gripping and gritty view of the near future and spawning a generation of look-alike films. A classic Reitman comedy staring Bill Murray and Harold Ramis, Stripes is funny and embarassing in equal measure yet still delivers a fun feel good experience. A well produced, engaging sci-fi actioner with some excellent performances and only a few marginally annoying elements which let it down. Hellboy is an entertaining and engaging action fantasy film with stunning visuals and only a few minor flaws.

How to Lose Friends and Alienate PeoplePosted by tony in 2008, comedy, dvd, love story, reviewAn above average comedy with some engaging characters and just enough solid laughs to keep you going and Pegg holding the movie together. Funnier than I was expecting and despite some clunky scenes and some weaker than average plot issues worth watching. Zack and Miri is a touching and funny comedy with some true laugh out loud moments and a strong splattering of Kevin Smith’s trademark dialog. Exceptional movie making and superb story telling make Wall-E a totally unique and memorable experience that is moving and funny and full of heart. A silly and flawed movie which still manages to be reasonably entertaining, Mutant Chronicles could do with being shorter at the start, fatter in the middle and leaner at the end. |
