Considering the source material and what was asked of the actors, I found Resident Evil to be watchable and enjoyable despite the many flaws, in a world of horrific game-to-movie conversions Resident Evil keeps it’s head just above the sludge.
Archive for the “horror” CategoryA silly and flawed movie which still manages to be reasonably entertaining, Mutant Chronicles could do with being shorter at the start, fatter in the middle and leaner at the end. Everything you expect from a Mel Brooks movie from the 70’s, anarchy, laughs, wit, parody and plot holes the size of a crater that you just don’t care about (and Gene Wilder, naturally). This classic British comic take on zombie survival movies hits all the right spots with some solid belly laughs, some pretty inciteful parody and all round excellent acting. A mediocre sci-fi action movie which reminds us that you can’t ignore the dialog, no matter what kind of movie you’re making. Keanu does well in a role that could have been created for him, and despite the changes from the source material Constantine is a good interpretation of the comic book with some worthwhile scenes and some surprising twists. A lightweight vampire/monster action comedy with few surprises that is let down by the premise at the end and redeemed only by Hugh, Beckensale and the superb David Wenham. Low budget British humour werewolf movie with some really funny moments and some very scary moments, and some very, very gory moments, Dog Soldiers packs a good punch and certainly entertains.

AVPR: Aliens vs Predator – RequiemPosted by tony in 2007, action, horror, review, sci-fiTerrible movie shot in terrible lighting with terrible post-production resulting in not being able to see anything on screen or care about any of the characters. The additional footage extends and enhances what is already a genre-defining action sci-fi flick and although these days the movie looks dated it’s impossible to deny the impact it had on subsequent films, giving it a deserved place in movie history. An exciting and thrilling movie with enough scares to keep you on the edge of your seat and enough sarcastic banter to keep the most bitter of movie fans engaged, well worth watching. While this generally disappointing film lacks solid structure and suffers from sudden changes in pace it still delivers some exhilarating scenes and good performances, but it will leave you in the lurch at the altar without a week of honeymoon fun to look forward to. |
